INTRODUCING SUSTAINABLE CITIES IN ACTION FORUM 2024 

This is a critical time for cities in the global south, and across the world. A combination of population growth, a changing climate and ever-more complex city ecosystems means the need for positive change and transformation in urban landscapes has never been more urgent.

Forum

With a particular focus on the MEASA region, Sustainable Cities in Action Forum 2024 united urban visionaries to find sustainable solutions to their own cities’ challenges, while exploring the opportunities those strategies and innovations present beyond the region.   

Across two days in March, the Forum welcomed strategic decision-makers and influencers in sustainable urban development from across the MEASA region and beyond. Sharing insight and expertise were ministers and mayors, urban innovators, essential youth voices, and representatives from business, academia, multilaterals, non-profits and civil society. In short, all those who care about transforming the future of cities.

Discussions and sessions centred on three key themes:

• Heat Resilience 

• Mitigation  

• Adaptation 

Through panel discussions and keynote speeches, Sustainable Cities in Action 2024 was a platform for transformational ideas and actionable solutions for sustainable urban development. 

Workshops

A connected series of workshops for delegates led by subject-matter experts celebrated and catalysed collaborative efforts to find solutions for some of the most urgent challenges faced by cities worldwide.  

Exhibition

Running concurrently to the Forum, the Sustainable Cities in Action 2024 exhibition excited and inspired visitors with its vision for liveable, sustainable and digitally enabled urban environments, offering further opportunities for connection and collaboration.   

Visitors were also able to explore Expo City Dubai, a mixed-use community built on foundations of social and environmental sustainability, and the physical legacy of the most sustainable World Expo in history.
