How do we build cities that enable sustainable and social development?

Cities are home to over 56% of the world’s population and The World Bank estimates that nearly 70% of people will live in cities by 2050. This makes it all the more critical that cities fully embrace the concepts of sustainable development to create a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive future for both people and planet. Expo City Dubai embraces the principles of sustainable urban development and in its own design, utilised a holistic values-driven approach to create a positive outcome for people and planet.

This workshop provided an overview of the “Values driven approach” that was used at each interconnected layer that makes up Expo City Dubai. It provided an opportunity for attendees to engage, discuss and learn about “Integrated Urban Sustainability” and “Social Value Creation” in a city context, and included interactive segments where participants worked together to identify common challenges faced by cities and opportunities to make meaningful change.
